Catrina: The Holocaust
Chapter 2
After that incident Catrina and Evelyn never saw Ahren again. They were seperated.
The train departed as Catrina startled at the sudden jolt of the train steadily rising up in speed. She looked around, darkness had fallen, how long had she been out for? Glancing around, she realised her mother in a heap beside her and many other people cramped around her. After finally adjusting to the light and she noticed, barbed wire was striken across the window and a little moonlight seeped through hitting her face.
Something yellow gleamed from one of the coats of the stranger asleep next to her, that person was also a jew, the yellow badge made it crystal clear.
Catrina turned to her mother and patted her head, it felt damp, probably the cold. She thought, thinking nothing of it
at the time and rested her head upon Evelyn's chest and tried to get to sleep. Her mother was no longer warm but cold, the beating within her chest had seized and wandered away from hearing ears.
"Mother...", Catrina whispered meakly nudging her beloved mum. She stroked Evelyn's hair, willing herself to believe she was just in a deep sleep. 'Just a deep sleep' she thought 'Just visiting the land of nod...'
Some moments passed but the silence was broken..
"Excuse me", Catrina asked the strange girl next to her, "Where are we going?"
The girl looked at her, her eyes were bright but miserable and wide with fear.
"We are going to death itself", she said slowly, "the death camps await us".
Catrina now understood, her mother had warned her off these and it all made sence.
Dark shadows loomed about her and, staring out to the sky people were crying. Why they never drowned in their tears, Catrina didn't know, it seemed to her, that there was enough to fill an entire ocean.
They knew their fate lay ahead of them beyond the carriage way and the railway track.
Tired, Catrina fell into an un easy sleep on her mothers restless body, wishing the nightmare would go away and that
she would wake up safe and sound in her bed. No such thing happened.
